“Each year we continue to grow this event to be bigger and better,” said the Hockey Alberta Foundation’s Executive Director, Scott Robinson. “It really shows through our sponsors and supporters how important hockey is to Albertans and how much everyone believes in our Every Kid Every Community initiative.”
Every Kid Every Community is designed to direct funds towards strategies that will engage communities and help them provide better access to kids who are not currently registered in hockey in Alberta. Over the past year, Hockey Alberta has awarded $40,000 of funding split between 11 different community groups across the province to create local introductory hockey programs. The Golf Classic raises the majority of the funds for the program.
“Great events happen when you have great organizations and people involved,” added Robinson. “With the support of our partners, in particular ATB Investor Services, we were able to put on an excellent event that not only benefits our cause but provides a great experience for everyone who comes out.”
Jordan Eberle (Edmonton Oilers), Zach Boychuk (Carolina Hurricanes), Thomas Hickey (Los Angeles Kings), Charlie Simmer (NHL Alumnus), Perry Berezan (NHL Alumnus) and Carla MacLeod (Canadian Women’s National Team Alumnus) were among this year’s celebrity guests.
The Hockey Alberta Foundation puts on a great golf tournament and they treat their alumni very well. It’s definitely an event that I am going to come back to next year,” said Eberle. “Every kid should have the opportunity to play hockey so I am always happy to come out and support causes like this (Every Kid Every Community) that help kids play the game.”
“We take pride in building and maintaining relationships with our alumni like Jordan Eberle who have come through our Team Alberta program,” said Tim Leer, senior manager of development, Hockey Alberta. “It’s very rewarding to come to an event like our golf tournament and reconnect with players who have gone on to play in elite leagues in Canada and around the world.”
